Following up from last year’s popular post rounding up my favourite films of 2009, I thought I’d do the same again this year and recommend my list of the best five films of 2010. If you haven’t seen any of the films yet on the list then I’d highly recommend that you do at some point. So without further adieu, here is my top 5.
5.) Tron Legacy
I’d only seen Tron Legacy less than 24 hours ago and to be honest I’m surprised how the general media have slated it’s release. Perhaps it was too hyped and disappointed a few people or perhaps I’m just missing the point of their arguments, but Tron Legacy is in my opinion a very good film. Visually it’s a stunning film which although uses a ton of CGI, it looks good on the big screen and gives a very visceral experience to the movie. The soundtrack is the real gem though with Daft Punk providing one of the best scores of the year and should definitely win awards. So forget what the critics think and go see for yourself.
4.) Toy Story 3
Toy Story 3 represents the end of an era. The end of Andy’s childhood and the end of our generations. More than anything, Toy Story 3 has made it onto the Top 5 list in part due to the sentiment of the series. Nothing was more of a tear jerker than that last scene, the final farewell.
3.) Kick-Ass
Kick-Ass was a tough one. There were a few major geek films this year and it was really a toss-up between Kick Ass and Scott Pilgrim vs the World. Altogether I think Kick-Ass just edged out in front because of the great action sequences and the better pacing that the film had over Scott Pilgrim. A great take on your average superhero movie.
2.) The Social Network
I hold my hands up, The Social Network was good. Not just good in fact, but great. And I will admit that last year when the trailer came out and the whisperings of a “Facebook” movie emerged, I hopped right onto the critique wagon and predicted that this film would be an epic flop. Oh how far I was from the Truth. Despite being pretty much a court-case drama, this film captures your attention from the start and keeps you on the mark throughout the film. The script writing for The Social Network is superb and definitely should take the awards next year.
1.) Inception
I love this movie. This in my opinion I think is and by quite a distance, the best movie of 2010. The amazing direction that Christopher Nolan has taken the film along with a smart plot has created an astoundingly good movie. For the full review of Inception, check out my review of the movie, Inception: A Modern Day Masterpiece. If you haven’t yet somehow seen this film, I implore you to go out tomorrow and get the movie on BluRay or DVD at least.
So that’s the end of the list for 2010. Although not as many A class movies as there were last year, there’ve certainly been some good movies this year.
