Pros

  • Small form factor
  • Fantastic design
  • Clever charging/dock system
  • Very comfortable to use
  • Innovative scrolling system
  • Surprisingly good battery life

Cons

  • Pricey

The Swiftpoint mouse is a sublime little gadget that’s quickly become part of our travel bag essentials list. It’s got a great little form factor and unlike a lot of other miniature travel mouses it’s not gimmicky in the slightest. We were dubious at first as to how useful it’d actually be but we couldn’t be more wrong. It’s surprising just how many features there are packed into such a small gadget and really is quite a design feat.

It works by holding the gripped rests with your thumb and middle finger and with your index finger resting on the two click buttons. The foremost button is for the left click with a raised right click button just behind it which feels very distinct. There’s a large rubber scroll wheel on the right hand side which can be used either with the index finger or if you turn the mouse slightly on its side, you can scroll by sliding the mouse up and down a surface on it’s side which is particularly useful for large web pages and documents. The style of the mouse is very nice and it feels really comfortable to use fitting in well with your hand.

Swiftpoint has rather cleverly included in their USB transceiver a magnetic charging system which also doubles up as a dock. A full 90-minute charge will give you a full 2-4 weeks worth of battery life which is pretty fantastic as it pretty much means that you won’t ever go without battery considering the fact that everytime you’re done with the mouse you’ll end up docking it anyways. Also the Swiftpoint boasts a RapidCharge feature and they promise that a quick 30 second charge will give you a whole hour of usage. Some very impressive claims which I haven’t been able to verify for the simple fact that I don’t have time to run the long battery down to nothing.

It uses a 1000-DPI sensor so the sensitivity is just perfect for travel use. It’s slightly more than the 800-DPI standard in most other mouses but then you’d want it to be unless you want to be moving the mouse all over your desk just to get things done. Interestingly enough the sensor for the mouse also comes equipped with a SmartTouch function which means that once you let go of the mouse, it’ll know you’re not deliberately moving it so if you do happen to jog it or it slides off your leg for example, the cursor will stay fixed on the screen. That said you won’t find it slipping and sliding much due to the quality pads they’ve used underneath which is usable on most surfaces and if not, Swiftpoint includes a stickable film that when applied to the laptop’s hand rest, acts as a small mousepad. Clearly Swiftpoint have much a great deal of attention to detail in making sure that every design aspect of the mouse is just right and well, when you clearly have this level of attention to detail, you end up with a fantastic product.

The Swiftpoint mouse is available for £49.99 from Swiftpoint.

Also we’re offering a 10% discount on purchases of the Swiftpoint mouse when you use the code EUEKZ423 at checkout.
