GAME tells it’s staff to go to Tesco to buy 3DS units to use as stock

A startling news story has emerged this morning coming from Eurogamer saying that official documentation from the top at GAME, shows bosses telling it’s staff to go to Tesco and pick up copies of the 3DS and games to fill GAME’s stock. In case you didn’t know, GAME is one of the largest video game retailers in the UK and Tesco as everyone knows (even internationally) is a supermarket which has quickly become the go to place for consumers to purchase anything these days.

In a leaked memo, bosses instructed it’s staff to use cash from the till, go down to the nearest and pick up 3DS units and to “do this trip multiple times”. They’re in effect pre-empting the predicted 3DS shortages and are using Tesco to fill their stocks. I should mention that the plan was to buy these 3DS units, and then to use them as their pre-owned stock, not actually to sell first hand up front.

[info_box]“Whilst we are unable to competitively match this offer in terms of a mint price,” reads the document, “it offers a great opportunity to gain 3DS consoles and games for your store’s pre-owned stock.”[/info_box]

There’s also been reports that staff have been reprimanded for not being a willing participant in such a scheme although whether or not this is true remains to be seen. A spokesman for GAME had this to say about this whole story:

[note_box]

Some of our stores wanted to move quickly last weekend to build their pre-owned stocks of 3DS at the same time as their local competitors, so we gave them a process to do that.

“It was not mandatory, and happened in small volumes.[/note_box]

So make at that what you will but it’s rather interesting behaviour from a market leading retail store. Here are the grabs showing the leaked documents, so take a look for yourself.
