Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s role in Batman 3 revealed
Following weeks of speculation linking Joseph Gordon-Levitt to numerous roles including the Black Mask, the Riddler and Robin in Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises.
It has been confirmed that Joseph Gordon-Levitt will play none other than Alberto Falcone, the son of Carmine Falcone. This role was played by Tom Wilkinson, who was the previous antagonist in Batman Begins.
Who is Alberto Falcone?
Currently Carmine Falcone resides in Arkham Asylum after being exposed to the fear toxin by Dr. Crane (Cillian Murphy) in the Nolan Universe. Alberto Falcone is most famously portrayed in the highly acclaimed series The Long Halloween. Alberto Falcone will possibly fill in the void left in the criminal underworld left by Mafia Boss Sal Moroni (Eric Roberts) who was killed in his incident with Two-Face. This could prove to be very entertaining if there is a power struggle that takes a leaf out of the Godfather series.
Other speculation
Indie actress Juno Temple has been confirmed to play the role of street smart Gotham Girl in The Dark Knight Rises. This parallels with Frank Miller’s Batman: Year One, where Gotham Girl plays the accomplice to Selina Kyle/Catwoman, played this time around by Anne Hathaway.
The Dark Knight Rises is due in cinemas in 2012 and is the final of Nolan’s Batman trilogy. What are your thoughts on these casting choices? Would you prefer JGL to play a different character?
UPDATE: (22/3/11) Well it turns out that maybe this isn’t such a done deal as Entertainment Weekly is reporting that JGL might not be Alberto Falcone.
