Did you know that the place they filmed Lex Luthor‘s mansion in Smallville and the Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters in the X-Men movies are actually the same building.
The X-Men films and the television show Smallville use the same location, theHatley Park National Historic Site in Colwood, British Columbia. The castle was constructed in 1906 when it was the private property of B.C. Lieutenant Governor James Dunsmuir and his wife. After the Dunsmuirs sold the property to the government in 1939, it was converted into a military college. The grounds are currently the location of both a museum and Royal Roads University, though it also doubles as a set for films and television shows. Comic book fans will recognize the building as Luthor Mansion from Smallville, or as Professor Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters in the X-Men film series. It has also appeared in an episode of MacGyver.
