In Empire Strikes Back, Emperor Palpatine was originally played by a woman. Specifically by the wife of makeup director Rick Baker. The voice of the Emperor was voiced over by Clive Revill and to give the Emperor a truly evil look, a chimpanzee’s eyes was superimposed onto Elaine Baker’s face.

Of course George Lucas would never let you see this, so your best chance of catching the version is either the YouTube video above or the original VHS tape.
