Skyrim has more than fulfilled gaming expectations, continuing to beat out all other titles on Steam and coming third in this weeks most played Xbox 360 games, behind the last two Call of Duty titles (Modern Warfare 3 and Black Ops).
The fifth Elder Scrolls game was also awarded full marks, 40/40, in the Japanese Famitsu magazine — the first perfect score to be given to a Western title, and one of the few perfect scores in the magazine’s long history.
“…Skyrim becomes the 17th game to be honored by Famitsu, joining the likes of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, and the timeless Nintendogs. Other foreign-made games have come close in the past, with Grand Theft Auto IV, L.A. Noire and Gears of War 3, amongst others, receiving 39/40, however none had scored a perfect 40 before Skyrim.”
Apps for Skyrim players with a smartphone or tablet, are beginning to hit the Android and iOS app stores.
The Android app Skyrim Maps provides a handy guide to Skyrim’s locations. The titular map is dotted with user-submitted landmarks and points of interest. Of course, you’re also free to submit your own location-based notes, too. A similar app for iOS, Dragon Shout, will be released soon.
It’s not all good news though – PS3 users of the game are still encountering issues despite a recent patch, with fairly severe frame rate drops. Velocity Gamer ponders whether or not reviewers on the PS3 would have scored the game so highly if they’d reached the higher levels, where the frame rate problems crop up.
It’s been a newsworthy week for the massive RPG title, and I’ve definitely been having a blast — when I’ve found time to play! What do you guys think of the game?
